BANGALORE: In order to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumkur and Bangalore Rural districts, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has convened a special meeting of ministers, MLAs, MPs of these districts on Thursday.Union ministers M Veerappa Moily and K H Muniyappa who represent these districts have also been invited to the meeting. Informing this to the Legislative Council during his reply to a calling attention motion moved by Congress member V R Sudarshan, the CM said that his government is committed to provide water to these parched districts and there is no question of going away from its responsibility.“There are a few options before the government. We will discuss about them in tomorrow’s meeting and arrive at a consensus,” the CM told the house. However, he ruled out the implementation of the controversial Netravathi diversion project stating that it was impossible to implement considering its impact on the environment. Acharya Elected Council Floor LeaderIn an unprecedented development, Higher Education Minister V S Acharya was on Wednesday appointed as the floor leader of the Legislative Council. Till now, the legislative party leader used to be the floor leader of both houses of the state Legislature. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda despite being the legislature party leader proposed Acharya’s name for the post and the house accepted the proposal.
