New Delhi: A 26-year-old woman and her mother were shot and injured by a man in the Punjabi Bagh area of West Delhi on Sunday evening.

The assailant has been identified as Jagat Shaukeen, a 27-year-old BPO employee. He was known to the victims, but has has been missing since he fled from their house.

He is said to have fired eight rounds at the mother-daughter duo, who were identified as Asha and Niti Arora.

Both of them are now admitted to the ICU at Maharaja Agrasen hospital. The mother — who is 46 years old — is said to be critical, for a bullet hit her in the neck. She is to undergo surgery later in the day on Monday.

The daughter on the other hand is stable now and was able to talk to the police and identify the assailant.

However, despite a statement, the police are not yet sure what the reason behind the crime was, though they are not ruling out a love-angle between the daughter, Niti, and the assailant, Jagat.

Meanwhile, neighbours have confirmed to the police that Jagat was a frequent visitor at Niti's house.

What's your reaction?
