Hyderabad: The Seemandhra bandh called by the pro-united Andhra Pradesh organisations has affected the 13 districts in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. The public transport bandh on the hills of Tirumala between 6 am to 6 pm on Tuesday has caused a lot of inconvenience to the people visiting the Lord Venkateshwara temple at Tirupati.
The pilgrims either have to wait till evening to take a bus to the shrine atop the hills or trek their way up.
Normal life has come to a halt in the Seemandhra region. While transport facilities and government schools have any way been shut since more than 40 days now as part of protests, private educational institutions will also remain closed this week.
Lakhs of employees have boycotted the work across government offices, going without pay, to convey their opposition to the division of Andhra Pradesh. With the central government proceeding on the formation of Telangana, agitators in Seemandhra are stepping up pressure on legislators to reverse the decision of dividing the state.
MPs from Seemandhra are also meeting the Lok Sabha Speaker after 11 am on Tuesday. Some ministers from this region are expected to quit opposing Telangana.
