The Regional Transport Office has cancelled licenses of 31 mini-buses and 10 other buses were seized for being unfit for plying on the city roads in a bid to prevent road accidents, an official said on Sunday.

About 600 out of 1600 buses were thoroughly checked by inspectors for operational viability of mini-buses and of them 180 bus operators were served "challan", 31 buses' licenses were terminated, and 10 were seized, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Vijay Pal Singh said.

RTO had given operational licenses to 2,000 mini-bus operators on 39 routes of the city, of which about 1,600 were running at present, Singh said.

In view of the June 6 accident in the walled city in which a mini-bus mowed down two persons, the checking campaign was launched on Sunday against faulty and unfit mini-buses operating in Jaipur.

The bus operators who were served "challan" or warning letters for running unfit buses were asked to report to RTO on Monday morning for inspection and pay fine as per the norms, Singh said.
