Ronjan Sodhi set for Shotgun World Cup finals
The Double Trap shooter, currently ranked eighth in the world rankings, is the defending champion.

New Delhi: Ronjan Sodhi will be the only Indian representative at the Shotgun World Cup Final events, which begin at Al Ain in the UAE on Tuesday. The Double Trap shooter, currently ranked eighth in the world rankings, is the defending champion and this is his 5th consecutive World Cup finals appearance, a testament to his consistency on the world stage.

The Punjab shooter has had a successful year so far, qualifying for his first-ever Olympics in addition to achieving his long-cherished dream of sitting at the top of the world rankings of Double Trap shooting.

"It's been indeed a great year for me. From the World No.1 rankings to two back-to-back medals at the World Cup and my first ever Olympics qualification, it feels like one the best years for me."

"However, having said that, I also realize that all this has happened due to my consistency in performance and I hope to continue with this in the future," said the defending champion.

The former World No. 1, who is one of the elite athletes of the Mittal Champions Trust, has been through a tiring schedule this year but is positive as he looks to defend his World Cup Final title.

"If you see the qualification list for the World Cup Finals for the last 3 or 4 years, it has been the same 7 or 8 shooters. The World Cup Final is the season-ending elite event where consistency is the key to make the cut," said Sodhi.

"Scores shot during the 4 World Cups in the season and the final position are taken into account to qualify for the World Cup Final and I feel glad to be at this position," he added.

Ronjan is the only Indian shooter to have qualified for the prestigious tournament.

The Asian Games Champion, who is supported by Mittal Champions Trust, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sahara India, has been shooting at an excellent average of 142.6/150 in the last 26 international competitions and has recently joined the Punjab Police as a DSP.
