Chennai: A 70-year-old rickshaw puller, a steadfast loyalist of the party was among those who applied for the Congress party ticket in Chennai on Tuesday, to contest the May 8 elections to Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Munusamy, who had worked for the party for decades, was among Congress partymen who made a beeline at "Satyamurthi Bhavan", the TNCC headquarters off the arterial Anna Salai, which was bustling with hectic activity.
Munusamy said that he had come down to Chennai from his home town of Ambur in Vellore district when he learnt that the party was giving out applications to ticket-seekers for free.
"I also thought that I could seek a ticket as I had been working for the party for several years," said Munusamy, who is confident of being given the ticket.
About 300 partymen submitted their applications seeking party ticket.
TNCC President M Krishnaswamy said applications were being received from all districts. "We have received 300 applications today," he added.
"We will receive the applications till March 17," he said. He added the applications would be sent to the party high command on March 18, who will announce the candidates for the polls.
