Renowned award winning Bengali filmmaker Gautam Ghose’s last Hindi venture, Yatra didn’t really work at the box office. His next Bengali film, Moner Manush is ready for release, but what's exciting him the most is the possibility of having none other than Richard Gere in his next bilingual (Hindi-English) film, Lala. An Indo-Italian project, Lala is set in the backdrop of Narmada Bachao Andolan. The story revolves around a village boy from India who tries hard to survive in Mumbai and his chance encounter with a European author. The buzz is that Richard Gere has agreed to play the author’s role. When IBNlive.com contacted Ghose, he neither confirmed nor denied the story. He said, “Yes, Richard Gere might do the film. But I am in no position to give you the confirmation. Wait till our Italian producer visits India and we should be able to give you the confirmation by mid-October.”
The shooting for this film will be done in Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai and France or Italy.
Since the film deals with the Narmada valley issue, there is also a buzz that activist Medha Patkar might play a cameo in the film. But Ghose said that’s not decided as yet.
