PUDUCHERRY: Suspecting that the government was considering closure of State-owned Anglo French Textile Mills, the Puducherry Congress has demanded that the government revive the mill by securing funds from the Centre. In a statement on Saturday, president of Puducherry Congress committee A V Subramanian said that citing power and drinking water problems due to Thane Cyclone, the government had closed the mill and sent workers home for a month.Instead of not having to pay wages to workers while keeping the mill closed, he said that the damages due to cyclone should immediately be rectified and steps taken to make the mill functional.Further he said that the AINRC government should keep its election promise of modernisation of all the five textile mills and provide employment opportunities to youth.
