SALEM: Jayalalithaa kept up her tirade against the DMK misrule during her campaign in the Salem on Friday. “The city did not see any development under the DMK. The partymen usurped your lands and kept you under perpetual fear... time has come to overthrow those who harmed you,” she said in a public meeting. Lashing out against former agriculture minister Veerapandi S Arumugam, she said he made people suffer much. She also threw light on the sufferings of the people of Angamal Colony whose land was grabbed by DMK and the six in a family murder at Dasanaickenpatti.Efforts to restore and return grabbed lands will continue, she added.Countering fears that the AIADMK, if elected, will scuttle major ongoing projects launched by the DMK in Salem, Jayalalithaa said that the first and second phase of the exclusive water scheme for Salem city, second phase of the Thirumanimuthar river project and the underground drainage projects will be completed soon. She made special mention of government resolutions on amnesty to Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins and imposition of economic sanctions against the Sri Lanka for its failures to address the problems of Tamils and atrocities against fishermen. On powercuts, she said her government has taken steps to increase power production. “Within a year, the State will be self-sufficient in power production,” she said.
