Residents protest slow work of road

KOCHI: Residents of Kannamally area staged a protest against Public Works Department’s (PWD) slow stride in the repair works of Chellanam-Kandakavu Road which is yet to be completed, at Thoppumpady new bridge on Monday morning.“Only a stretch of around 7.2 kilometres is left to be repaired. The last government had sanctioned at least Rs 6-crore for the work on this route. Now, when we demand the PWD authorities to complete their work, they are saying that they have ran out of funds,” said Biju, a member of the Chellanam Vikasana Jagratha Samithi. According to him, complaints have been sent to higher authorities. “A new estimate of Rs1-crore has been requested for this. However, nothing has been done yet,” Kannamally Panchayat member V J Antony said.
