PALAKKAD: The Railways has clarified that Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan was indeed invited for the foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed coach factory in Kanjikode on Tuesday as soon as the date of the inauguration was finalised.Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal said he was not aware of the Achuthanandan’s statement that he would not attend the ceremony since he was not invited ‘properly’. Asked if Achuthanandan was invited, the DRM said as soon as the date was finalised for the ceremony it was intimated to the Opposition Leader before inviting him for the function. The Railway Public Relations Officer at Thiruvananthapuram had also invited Achuthanandan personally, said sources.The ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 1 pm. The invitation issued by the Railways said that Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi will inaugurate the function and Chief Minister Oomen Chandy will preside over the meet in the presence of Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan and Minister for Power Aryadan Mohammed.
