Railways must embrace PPP model: Sreedharan

‘Metro man’ E Sreedharan has said that the railway sector can develop to its fullest  if the private-public-partnership (PPP) model is introduced.

He was speaking at the ‘Infrastructure Development, Including Urban Transportation’  session of the ‘Emerging Kerala’ summit held here on Thursday.

“The railways is a huge sector, catering to the travel needs of lakhs of passengers in the country.

However, given the huge network, it is unable to do so. This is where the PPP model will come handy,” he said.

Speaking on the solid waste management issues which is currently the major problem in the state, Minister for Urban Affairs and Minority Welfare Manjalamkuzhi Ali called upon for PPP models to solve the issue.

“Solid waste management is a big problem in the state. The state produces 8,300 tonnes of solid waste everyday. We have prepared a number of projects for the integrated solid waste management,” Ali said.
