On the occasion of the death anniversary of Dalit leader Emmanuvel Sekaran, the Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam staged a demonstration against untouchability, at Valluvar Kottam here on Tuesday.
After recent reports about school children who were not allowed to eat food cooked by a Dalit woman under the MGR Nutritious Noon Meal Scheme at a village in Salem, the members of the Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam urged the government to take action against the discriminators. R Umapathy, Chennai secretary, said, “It is absurd that discrimination due to caste happens in this day and age. This is the 21st century. We condemn this.” K Rajendran, general secretary, led the protest.
