BHUBANESWAR: The Postal Department has lined up a series of programmes to mark the  National Postal Week being celebrated from Oct 9 to 14. Devika Kumar, Chief Postal Head (Orissa zone) said, ‘Grahak Melas’ will be organised on Monday in all post offices to create awareness about postal services. This will be followed by students’ visits to various post offices on Tuesday. October 12 will be observed as Postal Ticket Day, 13th as Business  Development Day and 14th as Postal Insurance Day.  “Aim behind these programmes is to create awareness among people about role of postal services in socio-economic progress of the country,” Devika said. This apart, she informed that works are on to computerise 17 post offices in the State and computerisation of over 1000 post offices has already been completed. “The computerisation of post offices would create an enabling environment for enhancing track and trace and other web based services which would reduce the paper work, particularly in administrative and accounts offices,” Devika added. Core banking facility will be introduced in 35 head post offices. In some selected post offices, services like gold coin sale, WorldNet Express, instant money transfer will soon be introduced. Kumar also highlighted the availability of services like e-payment, bulk mail, business post, speed post and e-post in the post offices.
