KOCHI: Five squads of the Crime Branch will fan out to various places in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to nab those who have gone underground in connection with the Paravoor sex scandal.Crime Branch SP S Surendran said that five teams had been formed to scout for those identified as accused in the case pertaining to the sexual abuse of a minor girl hailing from North Paravoor in Ernakulam district.“We have seized the Ford Endeavour car used by Manikandan, the Tamil Nadu-based PWD contractor, to transport the girl to his farm house where he allegedly abused her,” he said.Of the 69 persons who had abused the minor girl, the police suspect that a few persons belonged to the film industry in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The sexual abuse of the 14-year-old girl came to light three months ago after her mother lodged a complaint before the police submitting that her husband had forcefully taken the daughter to prostitution. Based on the submissions made by the girl and the mother, the police registered a case and launched a probe. Though the police were able to arrest 29 persons, including the girl’s father and mother in connection with the case, the government handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch after there were allegations that the police were trying to help a few high-profile persons. In the last two weeks the Crime Branch arrested five persons, including the PWD contractor from Tamil Nadu.
