BANGALORE: The Journalist Association of Karnataka jointly with the Press Club Association celebrated the World Environment Day at the Press Club on Sunday. At the event the organisers distributed medicinal plant saplings and explained their medicinal value.The programme was aimed to promote the heritage of Indian medicinal plants and make the people aware about their medicinal benefits. It also highlighted on some of the endangered species and their utility.The plants distributed were provided by the Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Tradition (FRLHT). The Medplan Conservatory Society, the sister organisation of FRLHT is also engaged in similar activities for enhancing awareness about the contemporary relevance, conservation and sustainable utilisation of medicinal plants. They also organise exibitions in the city so that people can take these plants at home, preserve them and benefit from it.The organisers maintained that such events highlight the need to protect and preserve different species and such programmes are small yet provide great opportunities for many initiatives.
