CUTTACK: The Crime Branch, investigating into the alleged Pipili gangrape case, has sought independent expert medical opinion on the victim.A team of medical forensics, led by Prof G D Dogra, head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department of AIIMS, New Delhi, on Saturday visited the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in this connection. The four-member team included a DNA specialist and gynaecologist along with Dogra and his associate of the FMT Department of AIIMS.They examined the girl and conducted some tests on her. They also held discussions with the high-level doctors’ committee of the SCBMCH, which is in charge of treatment of the girl. The team also talked to the doctors of the Pipili hospital, where the girl was first taken, and also the doctors of the Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, where she was subsequently treated before being shifted to the SCBMCH. The team will submit its report to the Crime Branch soon.According to sources, the Crime Branch took the step to get a specialist team from the topmost medical institution of the country on board to keep the findings independent. “It is a matter of credibility as the reports of the Capital Hospital and SCBMCH might be challenged on grounds of manipulations. The report of the AIIMS team would be produced in the court as evidence”, a CB official said. Meanwhile, the alleged victim continues to be in a semi-comatose stage and she is under constant monitoring of the high-level doctors’ team. The victim is opening her eyes, but is not responding to her surroundings and voices. While experts from AIIMS have been involved in her treatment, the SCBMCH authorities are extending music therapy to the girl.The Crime Branch has arrested all the four accused in the alleged gangrape case.
