New Delhi: The next hearing of the case against Pakistan chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhary will take place on Friday.
Opposition parties in Pakistan, who term the sacking of Supreme Court Chief Justice as a "judicial coup", have called for a nationwide strike on the same day.
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf suspended Chaudhary on Friday for "misconduct and misuse of authority". He had served in the post since 2005.
Information Minister Mohammed Ali Durrani said Gen Musharraf referred the case of Chaudhry to Pakistan's top judicial accountability body.
"The President has taken the action after numerous complaints and having personally heard the Chief Justice. He has acted under the constitutional requirement," he claimed.
An official statement said Gen Musharraf acted "after receiving numerous complaints and serious allegations for misconduct, misuse of authority and actions prejudicial to the dignity of office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan."
Meanwhile, Chaudhry has alleged that he has been put under house arrest. He also said that he is not being allowed to make any phone calls or meet anyone. Lawyers in Pakistan have called for a nationwide boycott of all work in courts today.
Questions are also being raised about the urgency with which Choudhary was produced to the courts on Tuesday.
