Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the medical fraternity on the occasion of the National Doctors’ Day and saluted them for their services during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I want to thanks all doctors on behalf of all 1.3 billion people of India. Our doctors work like Gods and change the course of our lives,” he said during his virtual address.
“Many doctors have also lots their lives during Covid…I want to pay my respects to their families. Even though the virus is mutating…so is the knowledge of our doctors,” he added.
With the medical community playing a lead role in fighting the Covid pandemic, the prime minister has been all praises for doctors and other medical professionals.
“Even though the virus is mutating…so is the knowledge of our doctors,” he said.
Talking about how India fought the pandemic, PM Modi said the country has fared better than many other nations.
“If we look at our death and infection rate…then you will see that we have fared better than many big countries. We have set aside more than 2 lakh crore for medical infrastructure,” he said.
India has lost 798 doctors died during the second wave of coronavirus across the country. The IMA said that maximum of 128 doctors died in Delhi, followed by Bihar at 115.
States like Maharashtra and Kerala where the prevalence of the Delta Plus variant of Covid-19 is on a rise also reported deaths of doctors in double digits. Maharashtra reported 23 doctor deaths and Kerala reported 24 deaths.
