HYDERABAD: Days after the academic year commenced, Osmania University students picked up stones instead of books as the campus was yet again on the boil on Tuesday with Telangana movement gaining momentum.  On the first day of the two-day bandh, students and police personnel fought pitched battles on the  campus with the former raining stones leading to the latter to lob tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.Till noon, the situation in the campus was very peaceful, but it changed with the arrival of suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy and TDP Pargi MLA K Harishwar Reddy to the campus. But the MLAs were not permitted to enter the campus.  They entered into a heated argument with the additional deputy commissioner of police (Task Force) M Srinivasulu.   At one point of time Janardhan Reddy even warned Srinivasulu that he would pay for his action when once Telangana state is formed. Srinivasulu convinced him saying that Section 144 was in force in the city and he cannot allow them inside.  Later, both the MLAs and their supporters were taken into preventive custody before they were shifted to a police jeep.On coming to know of this, the students started pelting stones at the policemen, who retaliated with teargas shells to disperse the agitators. The exchange of stones and teargas shells continued for nearly three hours.  TRS MLA Harish Rao was also taken into the custody by the police when he was on his way to Osmania University. However  peace returned to the campus at 3 p.m.
