One killed as 8 coaches of Muri Express derail in Kaushambi in Uttar Pradesh

Kaushambi: One person has been killed after 18109 Rourkela-Jammu Tawi Muri Express derailed in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon. The accident took place near Sirathu station in the district at around 2 PM.

Eight bogies of the train have been derailed. "Eight coaches have derailed and one has capsized. The affected coaches are S3 to S6 coach, along with AC coaches B1, B2, A1 and one general coach," confirmed CPRO, North Central Railways Vijay Kumar.

He added there while there is no confirmed information yet about the casualties and injuries, the toll is likely to rise.

Rescue teams have been rushed to the spot. "Medical teams have left from Allahabad and are reaching the spot soon," he said.

Railway Board PRO Anil Saxena added that the accident has affected traffic on the route. "The rail traffic on this route will be affected. Administrative and medical help has been rushed to the spot," he said.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh for the deceased and directed Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan to make available all necessary help to the victims.

The train started from Muri and was on its way to Jammu Tawi when it got derailed at Adsarai near Sirathu station.
