DK Aruna, Minister for Information and Public Relations, on Monday inaugurated the bio-diversity film festival at the Indira Priyadarshini auditorium, Public Gardens. The 4-day festival being organised in collaboration with the Hyderabad Film Club and Babul Films will feature short films and documentaries from around the world.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the purpose of the film festival was to create awareness among children on the various issues of bio-diversity. She urged Sekhar Kammula, film director, to make a film on bio-diversity. The director attended the inaugural along with the team of his latest film Life is Beautiful.
Commissioner for Information and Public Relations RV Chandra Vadan, who also attended the programme, pointed out that ancient India had preserved bio-diversity but it was only in the last two centuries that huge damage had been caused to the planet’s diverse life forms, largely due to the people.
He explained that the festival would feature internationally acclaimed films and urged the general public to watch them. The films will be screened every day till Oct 12 from 10.30 a.m to 5 p.m. Documentaries and short films from the US, Austria, Venezuela, Czech Republic, Lebanon, Equador, France, and many other countries including India will be screened.
The films’ duration ranges from two minutes to 58 minutes and cover a range of topics from across the world. Some of the movies which will be screened are Drops Save Water (India), the Mists of Manengouba (France), Watershed (USA), Cheveron Texaco (Equador), The Arctic is Melting (France), etc.
