CHENNAI: It was that time of the year again for Sanskriti Cultural Foundation to honour a legendary personality with a colourful song and dance cultural event. This year, it was Padma Shri Asha Parekh who was conferred with the Sanskriti Kalashree — a lifetime achievement award. The live musical programme titled Yeh Shaam Mastaani, a line from one of her popular songs from one her popular movies — Kati Patang took place at The Music Academy.A carefully chosen musical bouquet of 20 choicest songs from some of the evergreen movies Asha Parekh had acted in commenced with Husn Wale Tera Jawab Nahin (Gharana with Rajendra Kumar), which was performed by Vishal Agarwal.While songs did appeal, four dance sequences also made heads turn. They were Raat Ka Samma (Ziddi) performed by Harita Jain and Nisha Parmar, Kaanta Lagaa by Manali Jain and group, Aaja Aaja (Teesri Manzil with Shammi Kapoor) by Harsh Chordia and group and Chunri Sambhal Gori by Sunil, Babita Chopra and group.Some of the memorable numbers performed were O Mere Sona Re (Teesri Manzil) performed by Rajendra Yaduka and Sarita Rathi Teri Aankhon Ke Siva (Chirag with Sunil Dutt) performed by Shrenikraj Nahar.There was a whiff of excitement in the air when Rakesh Binayakiya sang Yeh Shaam Mastani from the hit Kati Patang (with Rajesh Khanna as the hero). Melody filled the ambience when Manju Sarda sang Jaayie Aap Kahaan Jayenge from the film Mere Sanam (which had Biswajit as the hero). Musical stalwarts of those times like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle had lent their voices to most of these numbers. The last two songs of the evening were Achcha Toh Hum Chalte Hain from Aan Milo Sajna, performed by Nitin Sogani and Shilpa Singhi and Sayonara from Love in Tokyo by Prabha Gothi and group.
