Newborns death triggers tension

BALASORE: Tension ran high in Soro hospital following the death of a newborn on Wednesday night with the family alleging negligence on the part of attending doctor. The baby boy died seven hours after its birth.Sources said Jayrun Bibi, wife of Sk Nur Hussein of Belapur village, gave birth to a baby boy in Soro CHC around 4 pm. The newborn, however, fell ill after a couple of hours.  Hussein said the attending doctor was immediately intimated. Despite treatment, the baby showed no significant improvement.  “Even as his condition started deteriorating, neither the doctor nor any nurse attended the baby. They did not even call a child specialist,” he alleged. The baby died in the night.Relatives of the patient gheraoed the nurses and health workers. They even staged a dharna demanding action against the errant doctor.  The medical officer tried to pacify the protestors by assuring them that he would look into the matter.Soro CHC sources said that the baby died due to complications during its birth.
