HYDERABAD: The AP Transco plans to further reduce transmission and distribution losses, which stand at 16.45 pc, by adopting latest initiatives aimed at further strengthening extra-high voltage transmission network and increasing transmission availability.Towards this end, it is considering implementating Remote Meter Reading (RMR), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), etc.The power utilities embarked on short and long term programmes to bridge the demand-supply gap in view of the abnormal rise in power demand. Disclosing details on the occasion of assuming charge as chairman and managing director of AP Transco on Friday, Hiralal Samariya lauded officials for efforts to make AP Transco one of the best power utilities in the country with highest transmission system availability at 99.89 percent.Transco and Discoms officials briefed him about supply position, status of ongoing projects and progress of the various schemes like Re-structured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (R-APDRP), High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS), Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and segregation of agricultural feeders, energy efficiency and conservations measures etc. Officials apprised the new CMD that all-time high-peak demand of 11,972 MW was met during 2011-12. AP power utilities could supply 85,149 MU of power during 2011-12 as against requirement of 91,730 MU, a deficit of 7.2 pc against national average deficit of 8.5 pc.AP Genco managing director K.Vijayanand and joint managing director D. Prabhakar Rao; Transco joint managing directors P.Ramesh and K.Ranganatham; Discoms CMDs G.Anantharamu, Ch. Narasimha Reddy and K.Vidya Sagar Reddy and other officials were present.
