Islamabad: Suspected militants carried out two attacks on NATO supply vehicles in Balochistan province of southwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing a driver and destroying a container truck and an oil tanker.
A driver was killed when suspected militants attacked an oil tanker carrying fuel for NATO forces in Afghanistan in the Mian Ghundi suburb of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.
Police said four attackers riding on two motorbikes first killed the driver and then set the tanker on fire, destroying it completely in the Mian Ghundai suburb of the provincial capital Quetta.
Local police chief, Fareed Warraich said the driver's helper jumped out of the tanker and escaped on foot but the driver was burnt in the inferno and his body was charred beyond recognition.
Warraich said the driver could not escape because he apparently was shot first and sustained serious injuries. The attackers then fled on their motorcycles.
In the second incident, suspected militants attacked and set ablaze a container truck carrying goods for NATO forces in Sorgaz area of Mastung district.
There were no reports of loss of life.
The attackers managed to flee. NATO oil tankers and containers frequently come under attack in different parts of the country while transporting oil or goods from the Karachi port city to near the Afghanistan border for the NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The responsibility for many of these attacks has been claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban but no group has yet claimed responsibility for Sunday's attack.
Most supplies and equipment required by foreign forces in Afghanistan are shipped through Pakistan, although US troops are increasingly using alternative routes through Central Asia.
