New Delhi: The NSCN-IM general secretary Thiugaling Muivah has decided not to visit his hometown Ukrul in Manipur for now. He says that he will wait till the Centre assures his safety. The decision comes after Muivah met with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphu Rio.

Currently, the Naga leader is camping at a Nagaland-Manipur border village.

The news of Muivah's visit had sparked clashes between his supporters and security forces in Imphal, in which 3 people died. His party NSCN-IM wants Naga areas of Manipur to be part of a greater Nagaland which is strongly opposed by the people of Manipur.

Manipur government had banned Muivah's entry to the state. That led to clashes between security personnel and Naga supporters in the town of Mao. The protesters also sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's attention, saying Muivah's visit was finalised after consulting the Centre.

Naga protests in Delhi

In Delhi, Naga students condemned the firing by security personnel in Manipur on May 5. The firing had killed 3 people and injured over hundred. The students have asked the Centre to intervene and allow NSCN-IM leader Muivah to visit his home.

The student activists said it is imperative that the federal government intervenes to defuse the current situation and allow T Muivah, the general secretary of the rebel National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM), to visit his home in the state without further delay.

"Our leader has not been allowed to visit his birthplace. This is not possible, it is his democratic right, the Government of India has given him free movement and the Government of India is with him. We want the Government of India to act sincerely. This violation of human rights should not be there and our general secretary (Thuingaleng Muivah) should be allowed to visit his birthplace. It his right and his duty," said Livingstone, one of the activists who took part in the protest march.
