New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju will attend the second World Reconstruction Conference being organised by World Bank in Washington DC from September 10 to 12. Rijiju will lead the Indian delegation for the meet and would be a panelist for the opening plenary on the 'Political Economy of Recovery: Why Resilient Recovery is an Imperative for the Development Agenda'.
The Minister will share with the participants the various measures being undertaken by the government of India as well as the different state governments in the country vis-à-vis disaster recovery, according to an official release. Rijiju will also address an American think tank, academicians and the Indian diaspora on the sidelines of the conference.
The meet aims to build consensus on resilient recovery as an imperative for sustainable development, poverty reduction and shared prosperity, and to share innovative approaches for post-disaster recovery and reconstruction. The technical sessions will explore a range of themes related to post-disaster recovery, including political economy, empowering communities, technological and green innovations, etc. The meet would provide opportunities for the sharing of the best practices in the area of Disaster Recovery.
The first World Reconstruction Conference was held in Geneva in May, 2011, during the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.
