Monica is first SP in Yanam

PUDUCHERRY: In the wake of the violence that broke out in Yanam on January 27, the government on Friday posted an IPS officer, Monica Bharadwaj, as the Superintendent of Police of the region. This is the first time that an SP has been posted in Yanam.Monica Bharadwaj, who was serving as SP, (Special Branch), would be the first IPS officer to be posted in Yanam, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Puducherry district SSP (L&O). The AIADMK and Left parties, CPI and CPM, had demanded the posting of an IPS officer in the wake of violence in Yanam, following worker unrest. The move has also been attributed to logistical reasons, as Yanam is situated around 870 km away from Puducherry.
