New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of water conservation in his radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday. With many parts of the country already facing water crisis, the Prime Minister in his 18th edition of Mann Ki Baat asked people to conserve water.
"This is a very important time for farmers. All of us have to think about one thing and that is water conservation. Water level is going down gradually, we should work to conserve water. Water conservation is something all of us need to work on and everyone should be connected to a People's Movement to conserve water," said Modi.
Addressing farmers, Modi said that a 'Kisan Suvidha app' has also been launched.
He said the government, on its part, is constructing five lakh 'khet talab' (farming pools) across the country.
Under MNREGA also, efforts are being made to conserve water, he said, as he pitched for a people's movement for saving water.
In this edition of his radio programme, Modi also laid stress on sports and asked people not to waste their time in the holidays and instead hone up a skill of their choice.
"Don't let your holidays go just like that. Pick up one skill during the holidays," said Modi.
Modi announced that India will be hosting FIFA U-17 in 2017. "India had a good run in football earlier but that is not the case now. Our rankings are also very low. Due to the tournament that we are hosting, we will get an opportunity to create good sporting infrastructure also. I see that our youth is enjoying football like EPL. Its important to take football to every village & FIFA U-17 is a great opportunity," added Modi.
Congratulating team India for their win against Pakistan and Bangladesh in ICC World T20, Modi also extended his wishes for the match against Australia.
