Mild tremors were felt at several places in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district on Thursday evening, with the epicentre of the quake being recorded in Maharashtra's Gondia district.

Raipur: Mild tremors were felt at several places in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district on Thursday evening, with the epicentre of the quake being recorded in Maharashtra's Gondia district.

Panic-stricken people came out of their houses in Dongargadh, Ambagarh Chowki and Chhuriya areas, located 150-200 kms away from the state capital Raipur, adjoining

Maharashtra.

"The low intensity tremors were felt in some parts of Rajnandgaon at around 8:06 PM. The epicenter of quake was at Gondia (Maharashtra)," Director, Raipur Meteorological Centre, ML Sahu said.

The magnitude of the tremor was measured 3.9 on Richter scale. The intensity upto 4.5 (on Richter) generally causes no major impact, he said. Meanwhile, the district administration has confirmed that no loss of life of property have been reported due to the quake.

No loss to human life or damage to property has been reported yet. However we have asked concerned officials to monitor the situation and stay alert, Rajnandgaon Collector Mukesh Bansal said.
