MDLR ex-staffer death: Kanda yet to be arrested
Even though Kanda has claimed that he was not in direct touch with Geetika, her family has said that it was not true.

New Delhi: Former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, who is accused of abetting his former woman employee Geetika Sharma's suicide, has not been arrested with the Delhi Police claiming that they are yet to find any evidence against him.

Even as the police on Tuesday added the charge of criminal intimidation under Indian Penal Code Section 506 against Kanda and issued notice to two of his workers to join the investigators, a three-member National Commission of Women team met Geetika's family at their residence in New Delhi.

"See we cannot tell you anything at this juncture of point. This is preliminary stage. We had a word with her parents. We will talk to Kandaji also. We have recorded the statements of her (Geetika’s) brother and father. We will talk to all the people those are concerned with the case. We would be talking with family tomorrow. We will talk with police too. I would not be able to comment anything unless we are through with investigation. NCW is determined to give justice," said NCW member Shamina Shafique.

The 23-year-old Geetika Sharma allegedly committed suicide on Sunday and in her suicide note accused Kanda and MDLR official Aruna Chaddha of harassing her.

The family has been demanding an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the case and wanted the former minister to be arrested soon. Even though Kanda has claimed that he was not in direct touch with Geetika, her family has said that it was not true.

"I have not spoken to her in two months. There is no question of me provoking her," said Kanda.

Sources have indicated to CNN-IBN that that he and Geetika's family may have travelled together in the past. The police have recorded statements of the victims family and Geetika's laptop, mobile phone and diary are being examined by forensic experts.

"We have issued notices to Chaddha and another colleague Ankit Alhuwalia to join the probe. Alhuwalia's name cropped up during investigations," P Karunakaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West), said.

Police had already registered a case of abatement to suicide against Kanda and Chaddha on the basis of the suicide note. Asked why they were not issuing notice to Kanda, he said, "as of now there is no evidence (to link him with the incident). As and when some evidence crops up, we will do what has to be done."

Asked why police was not arresting the former minister, he said, "We can't say that and when there is evidence, we will do whatever is needed".

He said the investigation is progressing based on the evidence collected besides the suicide note which was recovered from the spot on Sunday.

Geetika's brother Ankit said they want justice and demanded a CBI probe into the case.

"My sister called me on Sunday at 1:15 AM and told me that Kanda and Chaddha were driving her mad. She just said this line. She was afraid that Kanda will harm us," Ankit said.

He alleged that Kanda wanted Geetika to sign a bond through which she would get sponsorship for her MBA but she would have to work in his company without pay.

"My sister did not sign the bond. Kanda and Chaddha pressured her to sign the document," he alleged.

Kanda, an independent MLA from Sirsa, resigned as Haryana's Minister of State for Home Affairs, Urban Bodies and Industry and Commerce, on Sunday evening.
