Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon said India was in touch with NSG too.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet US President George W Bush in Tokyo on July 9, Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon said on Friday.

Menon said US was committed to getting exemption for India from NSG for nuclear commerce, and India was in touch with NSG members.

US Congressman Gary Ackerman also called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a short while ago.

Ackerman may have been given an idea as to when the government plans to approach the IAEA to finalise the safeguards agreement.

Ackerman has warned that both steps must be completed latest by August if the US Congress is to schedule, debate and vote on it.

The US goes into election mode in November when Congress' legislative agenda may not make it possible to look at anything beyond domestic issues.
