A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered leading to protests by locals in Badawli village of Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Thursday.
One accused, identified as Samunder Singh (55) has been taken into custody in this connection and a case of rape and murder has been registered, they said.
According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday when the victim, a class eight student, had gone to Singh's house for work and did not return. Later her body was recovered from the house of the accused.
Agitating villagers staged a protest in front of the Binauli Police Station and refused to handover the minor's body to the police, until some senior officers intervened. The victim's body has been sent for postmortem, police said.
