Mamata says boycott Tata products
Mamata called for a boycott of all products of the Tata group to protest against acquisition of farmlands in Singur.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and her allies on Wednesday called for a boycott of all products of the Tata group to protest against acquisition of farmlands for Tata Motor's project in West Bengal.

Mamata has been fasting for the last 10 days under the banner of the Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, a platform of 20 organisations, to protect the handover of agricultural land at Singur, about 60 km from Kolkata.

"We call on all people to boycott Tata products as a mark of protest against what is being done in the name of industrialisation in Bengal," said PDS leader Samir Putatunda, who was standing next to Mamata.

A few hundred farmers from Singur also arrived in Kolkata to join the protests a day after the ruling CPI-M paraded a few thousands of farmers from Singur who asked Mamata to call off her fast and let Tata invest in the state.

Commenting on the boycott call, CPI-M leader Rabin Deb said: "This is an expression of frustration. They have lost their political agenda and so are resorting to such unfair means."

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has made it clear that 997 acres of land will be handed over to Tata Motors and it can commence work any day it wants.
