Mumbai: Maharashtra Government will deploy wireless cars in major cities across the state, mainly to ensure security of women.

"A total of 500 wireless cars would be deployed in major cities across the state and these cars would be used specifically for the security of women," said senior NCP leader and state Home Minister R R Patil in the Legislative Assembly.

Patil was speaking while participating in the department-wise discussion on the state budget.

The Minister said that his government was committed towards security of Dalits, minorities, women, senior citizen and children.

"The budgetary provision for Home department is Rs 13,342 crore, out of which Rs 150 crore is for the CCTV project and Rs 440.76 crore for modernisation of police," he said.

Patil said that police would thwart any bid by anti-social elements to create a wedge in society on the lines of religion and caste during an election year.
