In a swift action following a horrific acid attack on a 22-year-old student and her brother in broad daylight in Chowk area, Lucknow police have arrested the accused after a confrontation late Wednesday night. The suspect, Abhishek Verma alias Aman, was injured in the leg during the encounter and has been admitted to a hospital under police custody.
According to DCP (West) Durgesh Kumar, the accused was apprehended along with a pistol, cartridges, a motorcycle which he used in the attack, and two empty acid bottles were also recovered from his possession.
The attack occurred at 8 am on Wednesday, July 3, leaving both the student and her brother severely injured. They are currently receiving treatment at the trauma center. The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, prompting an urgent police response. The suspect was identified through CCTV footage and swiftly apprehended following a late-night operation.
CCTV footage revealed that the victim, the daughter of an official of the Chamber of Commerce, was standing near Lohia Park with her cousin when the assailant approached her. He engaged in a brief conversation with her, and then suddenly attacked her with acid. Her brother intervened and was also injured in the process.
The police are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the attack.
