KUMELSINGHA (Bargarh)/Burla: Four members of a family, including a woman and two children, were electrocuted while six sustained burn injuries in Kumelsingha village under Attabira police limits in the district late on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Manju Bhoi (40), her son Banmali (16) and nephews Arjun (11) and Sahadev (9). The injured, Dasrath Bhoi, his wife Sabitri, mother Purnima , five-year-old son Alekh, sister Anusuya (30) and Anusuya’s four-year-old son, have been admitted to VSS Medical at Burla.The head of the family, Aswini Bhoi, said they heard an explosion outside their house late in the night and his sister Manju rushed out to see what it was. On opening the iron gate at the entrance of the house, she was electrocuted. Her son Banmali who tried to save her was also electrocuted followed by Arjun and Sahadev. He said in an attempt to save Manju and Banmali, five family members were injured. They were rescued by the local villagers.Sources said the 11 KV wire, running over the transformer near Aswini’s house snapped and fell on the transformer charging the house along with the iron gate. Villagers alleged that although they had drawn the attention of Wesco authorities about the impending danger no action was taken. Executive Engineer of Wesco, Bargarh electrical division, Debadatta Bhoi said disc insulator of the 16 kv transformer burst as a result of which, the 11 kv conductor snapped. He, however, denied having received any complaint from the villagers.
