London: Bouts of laughter could really boost the chances of IVF success, a study says.

Professor Shevach Friedler of the Assaf Harofeh Medical Centre in Israel who led the study believes laughter helps clear stress.

He based his findings on a study of about 200 women going through fertility treatment, the journals American Society for Reproductive Medicine and Fertility and Sterility report.

All had IVF as usual, but after implantation of embryos, half of them were subjected to 15 minutes of 'medical clowning'.

The clown's work helped 36.4 percent of the patients become pregnant, compared to 20.2 percent of the other IVF patients, according to an Assaf Centre statement.
