KOCHI: The land acquisition survey for the construction of the proposed rail overbridge (RoB) at Atlantis will be completed before February 20, Mayor Tony Chammany informed the corporation council meeting held here on Wednesday. “After completing the survey, a review meeting will be convened to discuss the steps to implement the project in a time-bound manner,” the Mayor said. The estimated cost of the Atlantis RoB is Rs 10.63 crore.  Earlier, the state government had allotted Rs 42 crore for acquiring land for the Atlantis RoB. It was opposition councillor P R Ranish who raised the issue at the council meeting. The Mayor said that an agency will soon be entrusted with the task of conducting a study to suggest measures to solve the potable water crisis in West Kochi area. The Mayor directed the corporation’s health officer to make sure that fogging is done effectively in all the divisions. “Some councillors have raised complaints that fogging is not done in their divisions. The health officer should visit the wards at least once in a week to all the divisions to make sure that fogging is done effectively. The councillors should also conduct routine inspections,” the Mayor said. Chammany said that a meeting of the health inspectors would be convened soon in this regard. He said that the civic body would urge the state government to make sure that the Smart Card issued for the benefit of the BPL category is achieving the desired results. “There are complaints that hospitals are not ready to serve the Smart Card holders. This issue needs to be addressed,” the Mayor added.
