KOLLAM: The celebration mood in Amritapuri is set to reach a crescendo, on the occasion of the birthday of Mata Amritanandamayi on Tuesday. Lakhs of devotees and visitors from over 100 countries have already reached Amritapuri to attend the ceremonies. The constant refrain on everyone’s lips being ‘Amma’. To manage this mammoth gathering, the Math has made extensive hospitality arrangements by way of free food, water, stay, transport logistics and toilet facilities on the Amritapuri campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. A large ‘Annakshetram’ to provide free food through 200 food counters have also been set up and are managed by students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. In tandem, the venue will be equipped with ambulances, fire tenders, medical aid posts, helpline centres and telephone booths. Scores of exhibition stalls highlighting the multi-faceted activities of the Amrita Group of institutions have sprung up throughout the length and breadth of the venue. The main attraction is the gigantic pandal which has seating arrangements for lakhs and an elevated large stage where the 58th birthday celebration proceedings will be held. The ceremonies on Tuesday will commence with a Maha Ganapathi Homam at 5 a.m. followed by a talk at 7.45 a.m. by Swami Amritaswarupananda, vice-chairman of the Puri Math. This will be followed by Padapuja at 9 a.m. and later Mata Amritanandamayi will deliver a satsang to the assembled audience.Subsequently some novel social welfare initiatives would be launched in the presence of the assembled guests.
