New Delhi: A youth, who had allegedly shoved an iron rod into a teenage girl's mouth when she resisted his attempt to rape her, has been put on trial by a Delhi court. Paving the way for trial, the court framed charges under various sections of IPC, including 376 (rape), 452 (house trespass for causing hurt) and 307(attempt to murder), against Anil Devraj who had allegedly attempted to rape and murder the 19-year-old student after trespassing into her house in south Delhi.
"On February 4, 2013....you (Devraj) attempted to commit rape with the prosecutrix and you thus committed offence punishable under section 376 (rape) IPC read with section 511 (criminal intimidation) and within my cognisance," Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna said.
The court, while framing charges, also said that Devraj had "assaulted the prosecutrix by inserting an iron-like rod in her mouth" causing grievous injuries to the girl. Devraj, who was working with a local power distribution company, was arrested by the police on February 5 after a case was lodged against him by the family members of the girl, who was studying in Class XI.
Police had said that Anil had come to the girl's house on the night of the incident to collect monthly electricity bill and since the girl knew him, she let him inside the house at Lajpat Nagar. "After coming to know that the girl was alone in the house, he tried to force himself on her and assaulted her when she resisted," the charge sheet said, adding that he inserted a rod into her mouth when she shouted for help and resisted his attempt to rape her.
The police had said Anil tried to rape the girl and assaulted her as she had refused his proposal for friendship.
