BANGALORE: Karnataka State Womens Development Corporation (KSWDC) has come forward to train women prisoners at Parappana Agrahara..

BANGALORE: Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) has come forward to train women prisoners at Parappana Agrahara in fashion designing. KSWDC Chairperson Sarojini Bharadwaj along with Poornima B R, Regional Director for South India, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) and other members of KSWDC recently visited the Central jail. They have proposed to provide inmates with advanced tailoring machine which is capable of doing stitching, embroidering and other tailoring skills. KSWDC along with the prison department will get private textile industries to provide these inmates the knowledge about the textile industry. “Experts from the industry will conduct short-term courses which will include theory and practical,’’ informed one of the officials. According to official sources,  some private companies will provide raw materials to inmates. “Inmates will cut the material, stitch according to the requirement of the company and give it back. The company will then pay them inmates according to wage board. The money earned will be deposited in their (inmates) account. Once they are released, they can take the money with them. It's definitely a good chance for them ,’’ the official said. If the company find these inmates too good, they can even think of hiring them later,’’ he added.Speaking to City Express, Chief Superintendent Parappana Agrahara T H Lakshminarayana said that they had approached KSWDC with a proposal of training these women convicts. There are 172 women inmates, of which 100 are undertrials. Lakshminarayana said that KSWDC will also give training to these women in baking as well as beauty parlour courses.
