KS Eshwarappa hits out at Manmohan Singh

Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa on Monday accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of politicking over the Cauvery water sharing crisis between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

“The Congress leaders who are now finding fault with the government’s handling of the issue failed to present the facts before the PM. They are politicising the issue and we feel the PM is also doing politics,” Eshwarappa told reporters here on Monday.

He is also the BJP state unit president. Eshwarappa said the government will soon file a review petition before the Supreme Court. On how long will the state release water to TN, he said, “We need to have water in our reservoirs to release it to others,” he said.

Strongly defending the state counsel Fali S Nariman, who is under fire from the opposition for not being present in the SC when the case came up for hearing, Eshwarappa said, “He is a senior and eminent counsel and he knows what is in the best interest of the state.”

He urged the PM to send a team of experts to study the ground realities. “The situation is bad as Karnataka needs water to protect standing crops, while Tamil Nadu is storing water for the next crop season,” he added.
