THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Aditya Birla Group company, Hindalco Industries Ltd at Kalamassery near Aluva, will reopen on Saturday after a settlement was reached at a meeting held here between management representatives and leaders of trade unions.The meeting, convened by Labour Minister Shibu Baby John, was attended by management representative Dul Khand, Anil Sinha, Kumaravel, V D Satheesan MLA, A Dineshmani, union leaders K N Gopinath, C M Hameed, V D Sivadas, B Chandrashekaran, labour commissioner T T Antony and additional labour commissioner Tony Vincent.An agreement was reached to provide a salary hike of an average of Rs 3,700 per employee and other perks which in effect would be Rs 4,000 per employee. A memorandum of understanding was also finalised which would be signed by the management and the trade unions.All the outstanding issues were also settled at the meeting which also decided to reinstate 49 workers. Within the first three months, 13 casual workers would be made permanent and 27 workers would be reinstated. While nine workers would be reinstated in another six months. The MoU that would be signed by the management and the workers would last for a period of three-years.The company produces the vital components for the making of wheels for the T90 battle tanks. One of the vital component - T AK6 aluminum alloy, is indigenously produced at Kalammasery, which is send for value addition at Bharat Forge, Pune.‘The New Indian Express’ had carried a detailed report on February 10 this year as how the supply chain of the T90 tanks were affected because of the strike at the Kalamassery unit and had carried a series of reports on it.
