GANGAVATHI: “In spite of various adversities, Kannada has maintained its existence and better status in Gangavati region,” said veteran scholar Ham Pa Nagarajaiah (Hampana).Delivering the valedictory note at the 78th Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan (ABKSS) on Sunday, Hampana said Kannadigas had become a synonym for sacrifice, patience and harmony, and had also shown their bravery whenever they faced threats from external forces.He defined the H-K region as ‘Nrupatunga Karnataka’ and recalled history of Nrupatunga’s regime.He described Gangavathi, which is called the ‘rice bowl’ of the state, as ‘Kannada bowl’. He stressed the need for literature which could bridge harmony between countries, states, religions and castes.“Humanity should be the ultimate aim of literature,” he said.Sammelan president C P Krishnakumar (CPK) and Sharada Krishnakumar were felicitated with a purse of Rs 1,11,111 on the occasion.CPK, who was impressed a lot by the hospitality of Gangavathi city, said: “Where was this crowd! How did it appear here! Have they fallen from the sky or did they arouse from the earth!” He termed the crowd Kannada military.He compared the Sammelan procession held on Friday with the Dasara procession in Mysore.
