Khanty Mansiysk: World's top Woman player Judit Polgar of Hungary showed steely nerves as she outwitted Lenier Dominguez of Cuba to move into the last eight stage of the World Chess Cup here.
Judit's result in the Cup has been inspirational right from the first round and Dominguez was today added to the list of casualties following the ouster of Sergei Movsesian of Armenia and top seed Sergey Karjakin of Ukraine in earlier rounds.
The rapid tiebreaker was fought on an even keel with Judit taking the lead in the first game with a clean show and then Dominguez won the next.
This set the stage for the semi-rapid games where again both shared a victory each reaching the blitz tiebreak in which Judit drew the first game with white and then won with black to cruise home.
It may be recalled that Judit had lost the first game with in the normal games and Dominguez was very close to attaining a draw in the second which would have meant curtains for Judit who eventually won 4.5-3.5.
The other tiebreaker, which too stretched to the blitz, was between Ruslan Ponomariov of Ukraine and Bruzon Lazaro of Cuba in which the former prevailed after coming from behind in the semi-rapid games. Ponomariov also won by 4.5-3.5 margin.
