At the tender age of 14, she was married off to a police constable and by 18, she became a mother.

An individual has to have determination and belief in oneself to tackle the hurdles of life and they would eventually end up conquering their dreams. IPS N Ambika from Tamil Nadu, has one of the most inspiring tales of hard work and belief you will ever hear.

A citizen of Tamil Nadu, N Ambika’s path to ultimate success was filled with obstacles, that she eventually overcame. At the tender age of 14, she was married off to a police constable. When she reached the age of 18, she was already a mother to two daughters. Her circumstances did not take away the dream she carried and her success path began.

Her IPS journey started after she attended a Republic Day parade, where she witnessed her husband saluting the IPS officers. This greatly inspired her to become an IPS officer. She completed her 10th and 12 studies from a private institution and then did her graduation through distance learning.

As per more reports, she had to leave her hometown of Dindigul, in Tamil Nadu, and move to Chennai to prepare for the Civil Service examination. The decision was taken because the town did not have a Civil Service examination preparation centre.

Her dream of becoming an IPS was wholly supported by her husband, who took the responsibility to take care of their children. It allowed Ambika to pay all her attention towards her studies and prepare for the UPSC examination.

In her first three attempts, she failed to crack the examination and her husband lost all hope. He asked her to return the family but she convinced him to give him a last chance. Overcoming the difficulties she faced earlier, Ambika qualified for the examination in 2008. According to more information, she is posted as a DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) in Mumbai, currently.

According to Ambika, while preparing for the exam she focused on reading newspapers regularly and making notes. She says that rather than going to multiple sources, take the help of a single source to prepare for the different sections in the examination.
