London: It was the love story that spanned continents. Pakistan's former cricket captain Imran Khan brought home to Lahore the daughter of an English billionaire and the Jewish bride, Jemima Goldsmith, converted to Islam, but the marriage did not last.
However Jemima, who has stepped out as Imran’s voice, is now publically waging a battle for Pakistan’s democracy in London.
“I appeal to the government and the judiciary to restore democracy and release political prisoners of Pakistan,” Jemima said.
Within a week of dramatic political events in Pakistan, the Imran-Jemima affair is as much back on the discussion table as Musharraf's Emergency rule.
Imran, who has taken on Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf both in Pakistan and Britain, is presently in hiding.
Meanwhile, Jemima on Saturday led a protest outside the British Prime Minister's office and delivered a petition at his residence. She also said that Imran's life is in danger.
Three years after the couple separated, Jemima and Imran have now come together politically to fight for democracy in Pakistan.
