Jairam seeks states take on land bill

BHUBANESWAR: Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said the Centre was trying to introduce the Bill on land acquisition in the current session of Parliament.Addressing mediapersons here, the Minister said the draft Bill had been circulated for inter-ministerial suggestions.Ramesh said he had requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Chief Secretary to give the State Government’s suggestions on the Bill.Ramesh said suggestions from different quarters are expected as the Bill had been introduced for public consultation. The Bill will balance transparent system of land acquisition and payment of adequate compensation for displaced persons, he said.
